Legacy Giving
Make a Lasting Impact—Now and Beyond Your Lifetime
Philanthropy is a meaningful way to express your values and create a legacy that can grow and evolve throughout your lifetime. By including the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum in your will, trust, or other planned gift, you help ensure a promising future for the museum and the community it serves.
Your generosity will support engaging exhibitions, educational outreach, community gatherings, and important initiatives while helping preserve and share more than 13,000 years of regional maritime history—from Chumash culture to today’s surfing and environmental movements. Your planned gift will inspire creativity, deepen appreciation for the ocean, and make a lasting impact for generations to come.
Leave a Legacy Through the Flagship Society
Legacy giving offers a meaningful way to support SBMM beyond your lifetime. A gift through your will, trust, retirement plan, life insurance policy, or other estate arrangement can help preserve maritime history, expand educational opportunities, and strengthen SBMM for future generations.
The Flagship Society is SBMM’s legacy giving society, created to recognize supporters who have made a significant commitment to the museum’s future. Individuals who name SBMM as the primary beneficiary of a planned gift valued at $10,000 or more are eligible to become members.
Your gift may be unrestricted, giving SBMM the flexibility to address its most urgent needs, or designated to the museum’s endowment, youth education programs, or another area meaningful to you. A legacy gift may also be made in honor or memory of someone special.
Here’s how you and your family can make a meaningful impact that can last for generations.
GIVING OPTIONS
You are in control of your legacy and there are multiple options when it comes to how you donate. Different methods of giving can serve different purposes and offer distinct tax advantages. Understanding these options is important to make your philanthropic efforts as impactful as possible – both for you and the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum.
Already included us in your estate plan?
Please let us know if you have included the Museum in your estate plan so we may thank you personally and officially welcome you. Sharing this information also helps ensure your gift intent is clearly understood, may help avoid future complications regarding the distribution of assets, and supports the Museum’s long-range planning on behalf of our community.
